Model Contemporary Motions for Labour Party Conference 2025
See all Articles
Your CLP is encouraged to consider submitting a Contemporary Motion to this year’s Labour Party Annual Conference along the lines of one of the attached model motions.
Many Party members will be concerned that our government’s policies do not reflect the progressive agenda many hoped for and, as would be expected, sadly support for our Party has plummeted.
CLPs are encouraged to take advantage of the Party’s forthcoming Annual Conference to raise the need for government policy to change direction. It is vital our Party shifts and adopts a progressive agenda that will succeed in improving peoples’ lives. Without a significant change in direction, our Party will unnecessarily suffer a huge setback at the next general election and the next government will likely then include, or be influenced by, the far right. Annual Conference should try to ensure this does not happen and instead equip the Party with a new agenda – one that can succeed.
Some progressive policies that CLPs can consider submitting to Annual Conference are set out in the model Contemporary Motions – attached here as a MS Word document and here as a PDF file.
The motions are on the following issues:
- Meaningful action to end starvation and other atrocities in Palestine
- Support refugees and oppose racism
- Shelve the planned cuts to disabled people’s support
- Solve the Housing Crisis
- Bring water permanently into public ownership
The deadline for submitting such motions for Annual Conference is 5pm Thursday 11 September.
To be accepted by the Conference Arrangements Committee (CAC), motions must meet the following requirements:
Must be on an issue that has not been substantially addressed in the NPF Annual Report 2025 (published on 8 August).
